LAA basically allows the game to use more than 2GB of RAM, which can prevent crashes, especially when playing large scale mods like Ultimate Apocalypse. I believe LAA stands for "Large Address Aware". As the other guy said, it helps take Sulstorm from only being able to use 1gb of RAM, to be able to use 4gb of Ram.
